IFF protests Tiktok ban

IFF protests Tiktok ban

Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) writes to MeitY, and terms ban to be disproportionate. They find the need to commence a policy dialogue to ensure that the benefits can be harnessed while mitigating harms.

The association is concerned that "app bans" may slowly emerge as a standard practice and that it may have worrying implications towards the rights of internet users in India. It urged MeitY to adopt a 'rights respecting' stand against app bans, commence a transparent consultation process inviting public comments on social media, technology and adolescent health as a joint effort with the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Tiktok’s back in the game!

Tiktok’s back in the game!

Three weeks after the app was banned, Madras High Court has lifted the ban from downloading TikTok. The court was of the opinion that the rights of legitimate users must be protected.

The Court brought up the filtering mechanism introduced in the application while lifting the ban. While TikTok might lose its revenue share, experts think the temporary ban might prove to be good because of the increased buzz.
