PhonePe 2nd most downloaded finance app in May

PhonePe developed by the National Payments Corporation of India, was the 2nd most downloaded app in the world in the finance category in May after Google Pay. PhonePe has so far been downloaded over 10 crore times from Google Play. Google Pay, which uses the NPCI's BHIM UPI, has also been downloaded over 10 crore times from Google Play so far. 99% of Google Pay installs occurred in India.

In the mobile commerce adoption, India has emerged as a forerunner when compared to its global counterparts. In a study conducted, it was found that Indian consumers prefer to use a mobile device for purchases and payments. India has been rapidly moving towards digitisation and millennials are embracing innovative ways of transacting using technology.

PhonePe Merchants can now double as ATMs

PhonePe Merchants can now double as ATMs

Users of UPI payments service PhonePe can now transfer money to a merchant via the app and  get cash equal to the amount transferred in return. There is no additional price or charge to use this feature. Presently this has been launched as a pilot in Delhi NCR region. Users can withdraw upto Rs. 1,000 everyday in this.
