Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) writes to MeitY, and terms ban to be disproportionate. They find the need to commence a policy dialogue to ensure that the benefits can be harnessed while mitigating harms.
The association is concerned that "app bans" may slowly emerge as a standard practice and that it may have worrying implications towards the rights of internet users in India. It urged MeitY to adopt a 'rights respecting' stand against app bans, commence a transparent consultation process inviting public comments on social media, technology and adolescent health as a joint effort with the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
